DESIGN RESISTS WHAT AI
CANNOT REACH

Where AI stops, design pushes in.

Design isn't just about pixels or Figma frames.

It's representation. It's psychology. It's how we understand the world, and how the world understands us. Design is a system of meaning: visual, structural, emotional. It’s subjective and objective, neutral and opinionated.

At its best, design brings clarity to chaos, humanity to business, and storytelling to systems. It’s not about simplicity for simplicity’s sake, it’s about making the complex understandable, actionable, and human.

It shapes how we move, what we understand, who gets included, and what becomes possible. It is everywhere, quietly revolutionizing daily life, industries, and global movements.

Design inherently pushes back against the idea that everything can be automated, quantified, or predicted. There are parts of being human; emotion, trauma, nuance, cultural context, invisible needs — that AI simply cannot reach or comprehend.

Good design resists that limitation. It insists on making space for the unseen and the unmeasurable.

That is why I believe AI will never replace designers. This practice exists to defend the messy, vulnerable, contradictory parts of being human.

AI cannot replicate what’s built to connect us

Design is
not neutral

Design is often misunderstood in the world of business and technology; reduced to aesthetics, polish, or usability. But beyond the tech bubble, design is far more powerful. It’s a gateway to empowerment, change, visibility, and human connection.

Over 14 years in tech, with a decade dedicated to design, I’ve grown a deep understanding of how design shapes products and how communication shapes design. But in the past year and a half, something bigger has shifted.

The United States has veered into a direction I never thought possible in my lifetime. A path I believed belonged to history books — reminders of what once was, and what must never be again. Yet here we are. Facing the very real threat of fascism, unfolding before our eyes. For me, design has become more than craft and career. It has become personal. Urgent. Political.

In a world where authoritarianism creeps quietly and human rights are openly threatened, design is not neutral.

Leadership & Influence

I contribute design thoughts, learnings, and perspectives on UX Collective, UX Bootcamp, Medium, and have spoken on design panels for UXDX and DesignX Community's "Design Leadership Summit" in January 2025. I've been featured in additional publications such as ADPList's newsletter, engaging hundreds of thousands of designers.

I’m passionate about supporting the design community. I released The Product Designer’s Interview Playbook, which reached over 600K designers globally.

I regularly mentor through OutInTech during the fall semesters and currently lead the Sustainable UX Network (SUX) community initiatives. Between October 2024 and January 2025, I mentored ~150 designers — an experience I learned a lot from… and may or may not ever repeat 😅

Diagnosed with ADHD in 2021, I initially feared the diagnosis might hinder my career, but through focused bi-weekly therapy and self-reflection, I’ve reframed my neurodivergent traits as key strengths in my work. This inspired me to create G.R.I.T, a pragmatic framework offering structure to unstructured minds. Understand, harness, and refine neurodivergent traits to utilize as strengths that drive innovation, creativity, and resilience in design & product fields.

My STORY

2015/2016
INTRODUCTION TO UX/UI Design

I got my start in tech through operations, customer support, and documentation; building systems, writing help centers, and supporting users. It wasn’t until a former colleague (who moonlighted at General Assembly) introduced me to UI/UX that everything clicked. I realized the work I loved most was already design—I just hadn’t called it that yet.

2017
My First Full-time design Role

After soaking up every bit of design content I could find, and spending a year and a half learning, freelancing, and consulting, I landed my first full-time role as a product designer at a startup called Cater2Me. I packed up my U-Haul in Long Beach and made the move back to San Francisco to start the next chapter.

2020
A Whole New World

At the start of 2020, I joined Amplitude as a Senior Growth Designer and suddenly found myself immersed in the world of data, analytics, and (lol) learning what “cohort” meant for the first time. It was full of career-defining firsts: working on a machine learning tool, stepping into PM-adjacent responsibilities, running my own workshops, and participating in real design critiques for the first time.

2023
Publishing Content

In 2023, I began writing more openly about my design journey and the challenges I faced after being diagnosed with ADHD. By sharing vulnerably, I found an audience, and a sense of community. That momentum led to publishing with UX Collective, where I write about design leadership, overcoming obstacles, and navigating interviews with more honesty and strategy.

2024
Design Playbook

After hearing from so many talented designers struggling with the interview process—unclear expectations, storytelling gaps, and a lack of honest guidance—I decided to write a playbook and release it for free. It’s since reached over 600,000 designers around the world. I was frustrated by the endless loops, ghosting, and lack of feedback that left designers doubting themselves. This was my way of helping the community find clarity, confidence, and direction.

2025 & Beyond
Leadership Talks

After launching the playbook, I mentored over 150 designers between October 2024 and January 2025. That same month, I spoke at the Design Leadership Summit hosted by the DesignX Community, where I introduced the G.R.I.T. Framework, created to help neurodivergent tech workers reclaim their strengths and lean into their superpowers.

COMMUNITY

Community has always been at the heart of my work. I split my time between offering free mentorship and private coaching, creating space for designers at all stages to grow with clarity and confidence. While I previously mentored through ADPList, I now host sessions independently via Zoom and Calendly.

In fall 2024, I released the Product Designer’s Interview Playbook, a free resource that’s reached over 600,000 designers worldwide. That project sparked a deeper commitment to helping others navigate the design career path with more support, strategy, and self-trust.

Beyond one-on-one conversations, I’ve taught on Maven, supported LGBTQ+ youth through OutInTech’s mentorship program, led community initiatives with SUX (Sustainable UX Network), and actively participate in the Service Design Show’s Circle community.

Coaching and career support for designers

If you're navigating the leap to your next level, whether that’s a promotion, a portfolio refresh, or a clearer sense of direction, I offer mentorship grounded in over a decade of product design experience.

I’ve coached 150+ designers through interviews, case study strategy, promotions, and skill refinement. I’ve taught storytelling frameworks through my Product Designer’s Interview Playbook course on Maven, spoken at events like UXDX and the Design Leadership Summit, and was a top 1% mentor on ADPList three months in a row.

My approach is honest, collaborative, and focused on what you need most; whether that’s refining your strengths, tailoring your portfolio, or practicing for your next big opportunity.

What we can work on

From nailing your next promotion to rewriting case studies that actually tell your story, I tailor each session to your goals. Popular focus areas include portfolio reviews, interview practice, narrative-building, and uncovering the strengths you didn’t know you had.

Who this is for

Whether you’re a mid-level designer aiming for senior, a staff designer stuck in feedback loops, or just feeling unsure how to tell your story—I’ve been there. If you're looking for clarity, confidence, and growth with someone who gets it, you're in the right place.
